The Simelane family has been a part
of our work in facilitating dialogue between the LGBTI community and religious
(mainly Christian) leaders. It was from within this community-based work with the
family of Eudy Simelane that we began to reflect on the possibility of a public
event that would provide additional spaces for dialogue within the
intersections of religion and sexuality. The family has given their approval
and support to the use of Eudy’s and the family’s name and to how the Eudy
Simelane Lecture has been conceptualised.
