Prof Ron Sider’s Public Lecture
During the Israel Apartheid Week (IAW) from the 2-6 March 2015 we were privileged to host a renowned academic Prof Ronald Sider from the United States who gave a public lecture on ‘Doing theology in the context of injustices: the case of Palestine. Prof Sider used the public lecture to revisit Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violence resistance as an option for oppressed groups around the globe. He did an exegesis of the Gospels and argued that Jesus Christ did not encourage violence against the enemy, but in fact challenged us all to love our enemies. This was a challenging message in the context of injustices that manifest itself through violence.
